Our Story
Every stitch, every spin of the wheel, and every rabbit in a family photo has led here.
A Rabbit Named Louis
It always began the same way: "Guess who I saw today?"
Growing up, the story goes that a rabbit named Louis lived somewhere in the backyard. Her father would spin these quiet, small tales — Louis was always getting into something, always learning something, always coming out the other side a little wiser. There was a gentle moral tucked into each one, perfectly tuned to whatever she happened to be navigating that week.
She didn't think much of it then. It was just a bedtime story. Just a rabbit. Just her dad.
Only years later did she start to notice: Louis always seemed to skin his knee on the very same days she did.
"Guess who I saw today?"
Blue Lou Is Born
Thirty years later, a daughter arrived. And with her came a stuffed rabbit — aqua-colored, floppy-eared, and utterly essential.
Naturally, she was named Louis the Rabbit. LTR for short.
When the time came for LTR to have a daycare counterpart (because you simply cannot risk the original), a new white rabbit joined the family. The original aqua one became Blue Lou. The new one became School Lou.
Then, in a moment of quiet authority that only a small child can pull off, their daughter informed the family that Blue Lou was a girl. She used she/her pronouns, thank you very much.
No one questioned it. Of course she did.
Blue Lou has made it into nearly every family photo ever taken.
A Family Tradition
The tradition carried forward. When a younger son was born, he received an orange bunny. Everyone called it Blue Lou.
When the youngest arrived, a forest green bunny joined the family. Blue Lou, naturally.
No one expects to call that lovey anything but Blue Lou.
At this point, Blue Lou has made it into nearly every family photo ever taken — aqua, orange, forest green, tucked under an arm, propped on a windowsill, half-hidden in a stroller. She (and all her many iterations) has been there for every big moment and plenty of quiet ones.
In honor of the original Louis the Rabbit — and every beloved Blue Lou that came after — the Blue Lou Studios logo features a sketch of their favorite bunny.
Where the bunnies led us
Blue Lou Studios is a family business in the truest sense. It's a mother at the wheel, hands in clay, making pottery that's meant to be held and used and loved over many years of morning coffee and Sunday dinners.
It's a daughter at her computer, designing precision tools for potters — 3D printed supplies that make the craft more accessible and more joyful for everyone who makes.
And it's a whole family of stuffed bunnies watching from the shelf, just like they always have.
We make things to last. We make them with genuine care. And we hope you can feel that in every piece.
